GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Crime Victims Services Division of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a Victim Support Specialist whose work will involve support work related to the Crime Victimsand#8217; Compensation Program utilizing the crime victim claims management system; researching, preparing, and processing program-related documents and information; and responding to requests from program stakeholders.OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans. OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits (https://ers.texas.gov/Benefits-at-a-Glance) along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSUtilizes crime victim claims management system to create, maintain, verify, and update files; generate correspondence; and perform claim-related research.
Responds to inquiries from medical providers, victims, claimants, and advocates regarding the following: applications, claims, payments, status of bills, document verifications, and benefits information.
Delivers professional phone support by managing incoming calls with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Disseminates general program information to crime victims, medical providers, and other stakeholders
Receives, sorts, and routes program-related correspondence; and prepares correspondence for scanning.
Gathers, analyzes, and cross references documentation related to providers, victims, and claimants.
Performs preparation, research, and verification work on all program-related correspondence and records, including contacting appropriate law enforcement and medical personnel for necessary and sensitive claims-related documents.
Performs financial adequacy checks to establish collateral sources of funding and applies all collateral sources to eligible reimbursement amount.
Reviews medical documents to ensure they are complete, accurate, and meet the requirements of both internal policies as well as state and federal statutes.
Performs related work as assigned

Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from high school or equivalent is generally preferred.
Experience: Two years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: claims processing, criminal justice, customer service experience, social services; or interacting with persons in emotional stress or crisis; may substitute sixty hours from an accredited college or university
Knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures, and knowledge of legal practices and terminology related to the Crime Victimsand#8217; Compensation Program.
Knowledge of the Crime Victimand#8217;s Compensation Program and associated policies, procedures, rules, and laws.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).
Skill in basic computer skills including file management (saving, organizing) and email handling (sending, receiving, attaching/compiling documents)
Skill in maintaining and organizing office records, both digital and physical, ensuring confidentiality and quick retrieval for staff as needed.
Skill in the use of standard office equipment and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
Skill in effective oral and written communication
Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, showing the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in fast-paced environments.
Ability to provide guidance to other support staff.
Ability to provide professional customer service and to communicate effectively.

Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)
Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience: One year of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: clerical administrative support, healthcare administrative support, social service work, or legal administrative support
Experience in a criminal justice, crime victims or social service agency.
Knowledge of the issues pertaining to victimization and the victim service delivery system in Texas.
Skill in Microsoft Office
